Chris Small

Chris has a background in banking and finance spanning over thirty years across Sydney, London, and Auckland. Throughout his career as a Corporate Banker, Chris has been involved in more than one hundred merger and acquisition transactions within the commercial and corporate sectors. This deep transactional experience, combined with his Certificate in Business Valuation from the ACCA, enables him to deliver robust, defensible valuations for a wide range of purposes — including shareholder and family disputes, relationship property settlements, and court-appointed expert work.

Qualifications: ACA, BCom, BPhEd, Certificate in Business Valuation (ACCA)

Greg Dunn

Greg is the Managing Partner at ABC Business Sales and a trusted business advisor with over 70 successful transactions across the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions. He brings a disciplined, data-driven approach to valuation, supported by robust systems and deep market insight. With 23 years in the New Zealand Police at Commissioned Officer level, Greg brings strong investigative skills, courtroom experience, and a keen eye for evidential detail — all of which inform his practical, defensible valuation work.

He holds the ACCA Certificate in Business Valuations and an MBA from Henley Business School in London. His expertise covers commercial transactions, shareholder restructures, relationship property matters, and expert reporting in legal contexts.

Qualifications: MBA – Henley Business School - London, Certificate in Business Valuations – ACCA, Dip Pol – Diploma in Policing.

Peter Nola

With 20 years of experience working with business owners, Peter has helped hundreds of New Zealanders understand the true value of their businesses, from small owner-operator ventures to complex, multi-million-dollar enterprises. Holding the ACCA Certificate in Business Valuations, Peter delivers clear, accurate, and defendable valuations that business owners can rely on.

Peter works alongside the MarketSet Valuations team to help business owners understand their business value, their options, and the steps forward—whether for disputes, sales, property settlements, or any situation where a robust and defensible valuation is required.

Gerard Dunne

Gerard has a background in marketing, business management and strategy spanning some 35 years. He has operational and senior management experience in multinational corporate environments and in large SME, also having owned his own multi-million-dollar turnover business in the construction and maintenance space. In addition, Gerard has carried out a range of strategic and management consulting assignments in both private and public sector environments. This experience puts Gerard in a very strong position to understand the commercial situation and drivers behind the numbers.

Since 2014 Gerard has been assisting client with the sale of their business, specialising in commercial and industrial enterprise. He has been involved in around 100 sale & purchase transactions totalling tens of millions of dollars, each involving situational evaluation and value assessment. He has won multiple awards for this initiative, which he now brings to the important work of valuing business for succession, exit and dispute resolution. Accordingly, Gerard has deep and broad experience and therefore understanding of the true value of businesses on the open market, enabling him to deliver reliable real-world advice.

Ben Smith

Ben has a background in banking, corporate advisory, and business sales spanning more than twenty years across New Zealand and Southeast Asia. He is Head of Corporate at ABC Business Sales and brings deep expertise in valuing and selling privately owned businesses, particularly those in the $5 million to $50 million enterprise value range.

Over his career, Ben has worked closely with business owners, investors, and professional advisers to support complex transactions, capital raising, and succession planning. He spent nine years based in Singapore with ANZ, where he advised on investments into New Zealand & Australia from Southeast Asia based private and institutional investors.

Ben has been involved in numerous mid-market M&A transactions and specialises in delivering practical, evidence-based business valuations for owners seeking to understand their market value, prepare for exit, resolve shareholder matters, or support strategic decision-making. His commercial judgement and cross-border experience enable him to deliver independent, well-reasoned assessments that withstand scrutiny.
